He is survived by: his wife Natalie Alter; his children, Richard Rice (Larissa) and Michele Burkhammer; his grandchildren, Lee, Christina, Elaine and Gavin; his great grandchildren, Bella, Sophie and June; his siblings, Allan Alter (Delia) and Sheryl Alter; and his close friend Shelly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Phil's name to Pruitt Health Hospice (Okatie, SC) or to the Warrior Canine Connection (Boyds, MD), which provides service dogs to disabled veterans at no cost.
