With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Jo Ann Torrey of Bonneau, South Carolina, who passed away on May 29, 2026 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though her name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Jo Ann leaves upon the hearts of her loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of her spirit and the richness of her legacy.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Wilbur William Grimsley and Ruby Ernestine Powe Grimsley; and her sister Judy Berendt. She is survived by: her husband Lucien H. "Lou" Torrey, Jr.; her daughter Beth Steitz (Lee) of Moncks Corner; her sister Jean Butka (Ray) of Mt. Pleasant; and her grandchildren, Victoria Hunniford and Alex Sprouse. She is also survived by six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Jo Ann's honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to the Berkeley Animal Center, 131 Central Berkeley Drive, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
