He was predeceased by : his parents, Barbara Cartwright Peterson Lee and Kenneth Victor Peterson; his siblings-in-law, Bruce Sumrak and Patty Peterson; and his father-in-law Oscar Fields.

He is survived by : his wife Joy Fields Peterson; his children, Bethany Peterson of Camden and Timothy Peterson of Camden; his siblings, Cheryl Sumrak of Silva, NC, Sue Price (Duane) of Ormond Beach, FL, Kevin Peterson of Lugoff and Keith Peterson (Stephanie); and his nephew Wesley Hutto. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
