It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Max M. Johnson of Camden, South Carolina, born in Kershaw, South Carolina, who passed away on April 11, 2026, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Mendel Patterson Johnson and Elizabeth Catoe Johnson; his wife Diane E. Johnson; and his siblings, Gerald A. Johnson and Margie J. Ogburn.
He is survived by: his children, Beverly J. Archer (Duane), Max A. "Andy" Johnson (Holly) and Gerald D. Johnson (Betsy); his grandchildren, Drew Archer, Devin Archer, Sarah Avery Archer, Holland Johnson, Meredith Johnson, Elizabeth Young (Jacob) and Matthew Johnson; his great grandchildren, Ellie Young and Luke Young; and his sister Linda J. Witherspoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Malvern Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1514 Malvern Hill Drive, Camden, South Carolina 29020 or to Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 2140 McBee Highway, Jefferson, South Carolina 29718, in memory of Max Mendel Johnson.
