He was predeceased by: his parents, John L. McKinnon Jr. and Elizabeth Singleton McKinnon. He is survived by: his brother John "Jack" McKinnon; his fiancée Angela Bardin of Chapin; and his grandchildren, Martha Jill Christmus (Nathan), Thomas Bardin, Anna and Kate.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, he organized a small worship group that met every Sunday, often preparing breakfast for the group beforehand.
