With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gertice S. Rister (Chapin, South Carolina), born in Newberry, South Carolina, who passed away on March 4, 2023 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Heber Smith and Mary Wicker Smith; her husband Berley L. Rister, Sr.; her siblings, Billy Smith, George Smith, Johnny Smith, Rachel Richardson, Iona Frick, Reba Nell Rollins and Fannie Mae Walton; and her daughter-in-law Cindy K. Rister.

She is survived by : her sons, James Rister (Wanda) and Berley Rister, Jr. of Chapin; her grandchildren, Lisa Rister McDonald of Chapin, Brian Rister (Jennifer) of Chapin, Joseph Rister (Cade Caldwell) of Chapin and Berley Rister, III (Brittany); her great grandchildren, Katelyn McDonald of Chapin, Jonathan McDonald of Chapin, Logan Rister of Chapin, Harper Rister of Chapin, Berley Rister, IV and Charlotte Rister of Virginia; her siblings, Leroy Smith (Hilda) of Lexington, Earl Smith (Wanda) of Newberry and Mary McCarson (Dewey) of Prosperity; and her sisters-in-law, Pauline Rister of Chapin, Mary Frances Fishman of California, Martha Smith of Newberry and Janice Smith of Prosperity. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
