He was predeceased by: his parents, Josephine E. Paustenbach and Harry William Schafer; his daughter Pamela L. Schafer Goodlin; his nephew Lee A. Schafer; and his niece Cynthia N. Rutter Harvey.
He is survived by: his wife Maita Valjean Connor Schafer; his children, Martia V. Schafer (Willie) and Shawn E. Schafer (Ann); his grandchildren, Logan Goodlin, Kelsie Schafer, Kylie Schafer, Keaghan Schafer, Mason Frick, Jasmine Frick, Bryson Wages, Kingston Wages, Draco Wages, Adonis Wages and Gunnar Wages; and his siblings, Mildred Troup, Elizabeth Cowdrey (Robert), Cathleen Kiebler (Don), Catherine Rutter (Gary) and James Schafer (Kathy). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Chapin Baptist Church (950 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin, SC 29036).
