We bid farewell to Emmet Michael Alphonse Sr. of Charleston, South Carolina, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on October 31, 2025 at the age of 96. Emmet touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, Blanche Alphonse (Tisdale) and Francis Charles Alphonse; his brother Francis "Al" Alphonse; his sister-in-law Nicki Heslop Alphonse; his niece Maryellen Gunter; his mother-in-law Lois Vanderburg; and his brother-in-law James Taylor.
He is survived by: his wife Kitty Alphonse (Markwalter); his son Emmet Michael Alphonse, Jr. (Jennifer); his granddaughter Eliza M. Alphonse; and his siblings-in-law, Margaret Taylor, Terry Vanderburg Cutrell (Jeff) and Chuck Vanderburg (Pam). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 14th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McAlister-Smith Funeral (347 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC 29412). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity (1061 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC 29412). A burial was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Holy Cross Cemetery (604 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston, SC 29412).
