He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ervin Carter and Nell Devinney Carter; and his brothers, Donald and Bobby Carter. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Clark Carter; his children, Carol Carter Hogue (Marty) of Charleston, SC, Johnna Carter Legendre (Jim) of Hemingway, SC and Ervin Carter (Sheila) of Lancaster; and his siblings, Jane Boggs of Lancaster and Roy Carter of Rock Hill. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
