We announce the death of Joseph P. Dowdell Sr. of Charleston, South Carolina, who passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 98. Joseph will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his wife Jannett Bauchle Dowdell; his daughter Donna Dowdell Thompson; his siblings, Paul, John, Fran, Mary Dowdell and Madeline Gastinger; and his parents, Peter Dowdell and Justina Dowdell.
He is survived by: his sons, Joseph P. Dowdell, Jr. (Carol), Branson West, Richard C. Dowdell (Emily) of Charleston, SC and David B.; his sister Joan Morgan of Scranton, PA; and his son-in-law Gerald Thompson.
