He was predeceased by : his parents, Harriet Conover Hanlin and George Peel Hanlin; and his siblings, Harriet Hanlin McCook, George Peel Hanlin, Jr. and Col. John Elmer Hanlin.

He is survived by : his wife Lynn Sturgis Hanlin; his sons, Robert Bruce Hanlin (Susie) and George Harold Hanlin (Dottie); and his grandchildren, Sarah Anderson, Robert Joshua Hanlin (Marissa), Robert Austin Hanlin and Daniel Joseph Hanlin.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel (232 Calhoun St, Charleston, SC 29401). A reception was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
