He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Mary Elizabeth Fields Mellard; his parents, William Lee Mellard, Sr. and Jeanette Craig Mellard; his children, William III, Ginger Ann Mellard of Charleston, SC and Willam Lee Mellard III (Kerry) of Charleston, SC; his granddaughter Jo Marie Condon-Mellard; his sister Denise Mellard; and his grandparents, David, Bessie Mellard and Aura Craig. He was also cherished by cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriers Project and also to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
