He was predeceased by: his wife Naomi Sexton Scruggs; his parents, Melvin Defoy "Rooster" Scruggs and Mary Willie Henderson Scruggs; and his grandson Nicholas Martin. He is survived by: his children, Billy Ray Scruggs (Angie) of Chesnee, Ray W. Scruggs of Chesnee and Tammy Sue Parker of Chesnee; his stepdaughters, Brandi Harvey (Glenn) of Spartanburg and DeAnna Sexton of Spartanburg; his siblings, Brenda Nordahl (Randy) of Inman, Margaret Hopper of Rutherfordton and Sam Henderson (Norma Jean) of Spartanburg; and his grandchildren, Ashton Payne (Justin), Brittany Scruggs, Tamara Scruggs, Alyssa Parker, Jorden Ray Parker, Karlie Simpson (Devin), Blaine Parr (Allyson), Dare Pettit (Chris) and Talon Abbott (Stacy). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Southside Baptist Church (609 S Alabama Ave, Chesnee, SC 29323). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
