He was predeceased by : his parents, Major Lee Lawter and Lillaree Wilson Lawter; his son David Lawter; and his sister Statia Wood. He is survived by : his son Alan Lawter (Cristy) of Cooley Springs; his daughter-in-law Monica Lawter of Chesnee; and his grandchildren, Marissa Lawter, Courtney Paige Lawter and Caleb Nabors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive Spartanburg, SC 29303.
