He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert O. Charles and Ruby Gardner Charles; his brother Robert O. Charles Jr.; and his stepson Anthony Wayne "Tony" Ayers. He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Patty" Arrington Charles of Chesnee; his son Clayton R. Charles; his siblings, Brenda A. Graham (Gene) and James E. "Jimmy" Charles of Chesnee; and his grandchildren, Donavan Ayers of Chesnee, Caden, Jack Barnette, Reid, Jude, Anna and Ava Polivka. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
