He was predeceased by: his wife Evelyn Cope Messer; his son Donnie Messer; his grandson Charlie Messer; and his brother Carl Messer. He is survived by: his children, David (Yoko) of Chester, Douglas of Ft. Lawn and Debbie of Chester; and his sisters-in-law, Mattie Huffstetler of York, Lee Cope of Rock Hill and Vickie Cope of Rock Hill. He is also survived by five grandchildren: twelve great-grandchildren: one great-great-grandson.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Pollard Funeral Home (115 York St, Chester, SC 29706). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM at the Chester Memorial Gardens (061 00-00 #034-000, Chester, SC 29706).
