He was predeceased by: his parents, Isom Harley and Carolyn Graves Hurst; his siblings, Richard "Buck" Rhynes, Jerry Hurst and Rita Melton; and his stepfather Clyde Rhynes.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy G. Hurst; his children, Shane Hurst (Denise) of Atlanta, GA and Robin Brown (Ronnie) of Blews Creek, NC; his grandchildren, Andrew (Kimberly), Matthew, Ben (Bethany), Danielle, Jessica and Sarah; his great grandchildren, Ryan, Chloe, Ethan and Wyatt; his sisters, Patsy Mills of Chesterfield, SC and Betty Wilkerson of Chesterfield, SC; and his sisters-in-law, Elaine Rhynes of Chesterfield, SC, Linda Hurst of Chesterfield, SC and Pat Locklear (Cam) of Chesterfield, SC. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
