He was predeceased by: his parents, Cunningham Hughes and Marie Hughes; his brothers, Steve, Jimmy and Bobby; and his granddaughter Shelby.

He is survived by: his wife Diane Hughes; and his children, Thomas Hughes (Melody), Amy Padgett (Marty), Daniel Cunningham Hughes (Nedra), Heather Wood (Tim) and Angela Grant (Casey). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a veterans' charity of your choice in his memory.
