He was predeceased by: his brother Lindsey Cooper; his sister-in-law Georgia Turbeville Cooper; and his nephew Spence Cooper. He is survived by: his wife Julie Cooper; his children, Vickie Mayer Turnage and Doug Mayer (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Brenna Mayer (Ethan Thompson) and Carter Mayer; and his nieces, Kim Cooper-Dotson and Cindy Cooper Koehler.
