He was predeceased by : his parents, Carroll Grant Thompson and Betty Walker Thompson; his grandparents, Dessie Walker and L. G. Walker Sr.; his uncle L. G. Walker, Jr.; and his aunts, Faye Ward, Inez Peurifoy, Anne Haley and Nell Parker.

He is survived by : his daughter Ashley Jones of Elgin; and his brother Carl Anthony "Tony" Thompson of Columbia. He is also survived by numerous other extended family and friends.
