He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Sowell and Margaret Sowell (Atkinson); and his sister Pat Sears. He is survived by: his daughter Courtney Derrick (James); his grandchildren, Shirley and Jacob Derrick; his former wife Debbie; and his brother-in-law Jim Sears.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, August 3rd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Dunbar Funeral Home (7600 Woodrow St, Irmo, SC 29063).
