He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sidney Bowman, Sr. and Mary Adele Mackay Bowman; his wife Elizabeth Fair Smith; his son John Sidney Bowman, III (Naomi Rosenberg) of Easthampton, MA; his parents-in-law, Forrest S. Smith, Jr. and Mary "Peggy" Dukes Smith; and his brother-in-law George Elliot Crider.
He is survived by: his children, Mary Adele "Penny" Boone (Jimmy) of Columbia, SC, Mandy McNeill of Columbia, SC, Caroline Ryan of Bakersfield, CA and Philip R. Bowman (Elisabeth) of Cornelius, NC; his grandchildren, Robert Mills Connelly (Melissa), Maura Connelly Cook (Pierce), Ashley McNeill Parker, Zachary Tyler Ryan and Jared Stephen Ryan; his great grandchildren, Troy Bryant (Haley), Pierce Embree Cook, IV, Archer Declan Cook and Rosemarie Adele Cook; his sister Marion Mackay "Kay" Williams (Pat); and his siblings-in-law, Donna Justine Dewitt (Jimmy) and Forrest "Sandy" Smith, III.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel (3379 Columbia Rd NE, Orangeburg, SC 29118).
