He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Black and Gertrude Black; and his siblings, Jeannette Jennings (Billy) and Olin Black (Shirley). He is survived by: his wife Joan Derrick Black; his children, Jennifer Hill of Cullman, AL, Derrick Black, Brittany Suchanek of Atlanta, GA and Karen Avery (Ged (Atlanta); his grandchildren, Jude Black, Caroline, Anna Hill, Jane, Graham and Austin Avery; his sister Ruby Reese; and his siblings-in-law, Jimmy Derrick (Laura (Columbia) and Jean Holcomb (Paul (Columbia).
