He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse James and Elise Ashford; his wife Judy Mae Ashford; and his siblings, Baby Girl Ashford, Blondell Brooks and Johnnie Ashford.

He is survived by: his daughters, Rosharon Ashford-Ross (Alvin), Brenda Ashford-Cook (Shawn), Shalonda Ashford and Sharon Robinson; his stepdaughters, Julie Glasscho (Leeotis) and Nancy Green; and his sister-in-law Cora Ashford. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
