He is survived by: his wife Michelle Steele Tharp; his daughter Mattie Tharp Sterling (Sam); and his sisters, Frankie Highsmith, Helen Highsmith (Mike), Denise Lewis, Sarah Martin (Ernest) and Karen Dalton (Danny). He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
