He was predeceased by: his parents, Dan E. James and Elise R. James; and his siblings, Betty Winsett, Herbert James, Dan James and Don James.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy B. James; his children, Wes James (Liz) of Lancaster and Donna Jenkins (Peter) of James Island; his grandchildren, Kyle James, Garrett James (Whitney), Madison Mullinax (David), McKenzie Jenkins, David James and Marianne Jenkins; and his great grandchild Brynn Mullinax.
