He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald E. Thornton, Sr. and Iola Parsons Thornton; his brothers, Donald Edward Thornton Jr. and Robert L. Hice; his stepson Patrick Rich; and his in-laws, Dale Thornton, Sandy Thornton, Bert McClure and Harry Burns.
He is survived by: his wife Amanda Blake Thornton; his daughters, Brittany Bryant (Dustin) of Cowpens and Catherine Drake (Jesse) of Dawsonville, GA; his siblings, Tom Thornton of Gaston, SC, Richard Thornton (Mary Arthur) of Spartanburg, Judy Thornton McClure of Pelion, SC and Gerri Thornton Goss (Craig Armstrong) of Lawrenceville, GA; and his grandchildren, Shyanne Harris, Ava Harris, Alahna Bryant, Daniel Drake and Baby Tucker. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
