Bernice Leverne Wilson Sr. Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Bernice Leverne Wilson Sr. of Darlington, South Carolina, who passed away on January 22, 2021 at the age of 84. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Mazaree G. Wilson and John B. Williams; his daughter Flora Marie Wilson Sellers; and his daughter-in-law Gloria Jett Wilson. He is survived by: his wife Mary Alice Wilson of Hartsville; his children, Hope Thomas (Nathaniel) of Beech Island, S. C., Constance Days (Collin) of Atlantic City, N. J., Lisa Dalton (Steven) of Charlotte, N. C., Dawn Anthony of Charleston, S. C., Mary B. Wilson of Hartsville, S. C., Bertram Wilson (Venita) of Charlotte, N. C., Byron Wilson (Valerie) of Hartsville, S. C., Gerald Wilson (Tracie) of Greenville, S. C. and Norris Wilson (Carla) of Hartsville, S. C.; his siblings, Jason B. Williams of Charlotte, N. C., Gloria Aaron of Hartsville, S. C., Holly C. Williams of High Point, N. C., Lonzenia L. Williams of High Point, N. C., Chrystal D. Neal of High Point, N. C., Robin Hankins of Brooklyn, N. Y., Roseann Roderick of Melville, N. Y. and Nineteen; his sisters-in-law, Corine Ervin of Columbia and Georgia Pearson (John) of Darlington; his aunt Cleo Williams of Hartsville, S. C.; his cousins, Ted Williams (Rose), Jackie Moore of Hartsville, Doris Hughes of Dublin, Georgia, Joyce Burns of Society Hill, S. C, Carolyn Jones of Winston Salem and Patricia Wilson of Brooklyn; and his adoptive daughters, Shaniqua Toney of Hartsville, S. C. and Valerie Hammonds King of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by Nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He played an active role in the organization of the Butler Heritage Foundation in the late 1980's and worked extensively with the Hartsville Branch of the NAACP.
