He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Scipio and Eva Mae Ham Scipio; his wife Annie Mae Jackson Scipio; his daughter Shantel Scipio; and his siblings, Samuel Scipio (Evelyn), Liston Scipio (Pearlie Mae), Joe Nathan Scipio, Sarah Frances Wilson (Eddie), Julius Lee Scipio (Laura), James Evans Scipio (Mary) and Theron Kelly Scipio.
He is survived by: his children, Hermena Hardy and John Moses Scipio, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Darlington, SC; his grandchildren, Kendra Scipio, Brian Keith Hardy, Jr. and Juwan Bull; his sisters, Mary Redden of Darlington, SC, Bessie Curtis of Darlington, SC and Ruth Echols of Amityville, NY; his sisters-in-law, Linda Jackson of Darlington, SC, Mamie Jackson of Darlington, SC, Rosa Scipio of Darlington, SC and Christine Ray of Connecticut; and his close friend Helen Ham. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
