Jean Hatcher Hayes Obituary

Jean Hatcher Hayes, 85, passed away January 29th, 2022 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Mrs. Hayes was born in Blenheim, SC on September 7th, 1936, to the late James Sam Hatcher and Mary Vindell (Hatcher) Hatcher. She was a homemaker, breast cancer survivor, seamstress and a prior employee of Selma Hosier.

Mostly, she was a great mother and an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved sharing her love of sewing with all those who wanted to learn and would often have classes at the church. If you didn't have a pattern, show her a picture and she could still make what you wanted.

She also loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, who was the apple of her eye. She was a member of the Waccamaw Indian People of Conway, SC and New Life Assembly of Dillon, SC and prior member of First Assembly of God, Florence, SC. She was married to the late SFC Fairley Hayes for 25 years and followed him around as a military spouse to various bases stateside and overseas.

Germany was her favorite overseas location. She is survived by her daughter Susan Hayes-Hatcher (Harold "Buster") of Conway, her son David Hayes of Florence, granddaughter Courtney Hayes and her boyfriend Joe Newman of Florence; sisters Elsie Mae Osborn of Tryon, NC, Carolyn Bryant of Dillon, SC and Mildred Daniels of Myrtle Beach SC; a brother George "Buddy" Hatcher of Dillon SC. Lots of nieces, nephews and specials friends; also, two grand kitties and three great grand dogs, one great-grand kitty, and a great-grand bird.

Mrs. Hayes is preceded in death by grandson Bradley Hayes Lowe; brothers Hartley Hatcher, Doyle Hatcher and Sam Hatcher, Jr; sisters Frances Barrineau, Gladys Gray and Mary Evelyn Peacock. Memorial service will be held on Saturday 5 Feb 2022 at New Life Family Worship Center, in Dillon SC at 12pm. Visitation an hour before the service.
