He was predeceased by: his parents, JB Gilmer and Elsie Lee Cannon Gilmer; and his siblings, Dink Gilmer, Randy Gilmer, Roger Gilmer and Gloria Jones.

He is survived by: his wife Judith Marion Bell Gilmer of Setters Lane; his children, Stephen Dean Alberson, Bryan Hatcher of Honea Path, Tracy LeeAnn Alberson of Donalds, Staci Laine Alberson of Donalds and Chesney Marie Hatcher of Donalds; his siblings, Mike Gilmer (Teresa) of Honea Path and Sandy Phillips (Frankie) of Honea Path; his mother-in-law Elaine Bell Davis of Belton; and his pet Tiny Ann.

Visitation was held on Sunday, November 9th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Pruitt Funeral Home (603 N Main St, Honea Path, SC 29654). A graveside service was held on Sunday, November 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Eastview Cemetery.
