He was predeceased by: his wife Brenda Lee O'Quinn Coates; his parents, Willie Coates and Mettie Coates; his children, Eddie Coates and Debra Coates Davis (Leon); and his siblings, R. L. Coates, James'Sonny'Coates and Marguerite Busby.
He is survived by: his son James'Jimmy'Coates; his stepchildren, Dawn Brown (Tim), Paul Gettys and Rodney Bailey; and his daughter-in-law Diana Coates. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held on Sunday, September 20th 2026 at 6:00 PM at 4 Strong Cir, Due West, SC 29639.
