He was predeceased by : his brother Will. He is survived by : his wife Amanda Dawkins Roberson; his parents, Bill Roberson and Dianna Roberson; his children, Jack, Sadie and Eli Roberson; his sister Cindy Newman (Rick); his niece Katie Pervorse (Nathan); his great-niece Esther; his great-nephew Oliver; his sister Wendy Peltz (Jeff); his nephew Will; his brother-in-law Chad; his nephews, Andrew (Keri) and Luke; his brother-in-law Greg Dawkins; his nieces and nephews, Kate, Emma and Abby; and also, Ben and Brenda Dawkins.

During the COVID-19 crisis, Matt immediately volunteered to serve in the hospital to care for patients when the hospitals were understaffed, and he willingly took on nursing duties, in addition to his normal job.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Piedmont Women's Center.

“My heart is heavy and eyes filled with tears today as I learned that Dr Matt has passed away😢 He performed a rotator cuff surgery on me December 2019… He was an amazing surgeon but even better at his patient care interactions… So caring, compassionate and a great communicator… My prayers go to his family and friends that Our Lord will send His gift of Grace and Strength to ease their pain at his passing… He will always be in my thoughts and memories every day I do my healed shoulder exercises❤”

“I’ll start off by saying I’m a Med device rep. I met Dr Roberson (although he didn’t introduce himself as Dr) when he started working w Stephens County Hospital. I’m usually the perpetual “scum” of medicine. I know hundreds of physicians. I can count on less than 1 hand, the number physicians that made me feel welcome to be in their presence. He lived his life as Christ did and I’m honored to have met, and shared hunting stories with him. Such a GREAT man. God Bless”
