He was predeceased by : his parents, Sarah Alverson Elgin and Edward R. Elgin Sr.; and his son Richard Elgin. He is survived by : his daughters, Hope Gibson and Angie Cleveland (Chris); and his siblings, Patricia "Pat" Golden, John Billy Elgin and Charles Dean Elgin. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, Inc. (801 Columbia Rd, Edgefield, SC 29824). A graveside service was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Overbrook Cemetery.
