He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Earl Smith, Sr. and Lillie Lee Thomas; and his siblings, Billy Smith and June Stalvey. He is survived by: his wife Mary Tuten Smith; his siblings, W. E. Smith, Rose Wada and Bessie Thomas (JaDon); his children, Ginger McLeod (Billy) of Florence, Joseph E. "Joey" Smith, Jr. (Pam) of Mobile and Michael Smith (Melanie) of Florence; his grandchildren, Will McLeod (Ashlee), Amber Glaz (Matt), Kellie Brown (Ray), April Smith, Jamie McMillan (Jebb), Kody Wiggins (Morgan), Hannah Smith and Les Smith; and his great grandchildren, Roston, Peyton, Riley, Pryce, Haedyn, Easton, Bayleigh, Piper, Scarlett and Gray.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Mizpah Baptist Cemetery Maintenance Fund 233 North Price Road, Florence, South Carolina 29506.
