He was predeceased by: his parents, Ervin Kester and Sarah Jane Thompson Kester; his siblings, Audrey Harvey, Clarence, Morris, Rex and Paul Kester; and his stepchildren, Tony Matthews and Sheila Matthews Cumbie.

He is survived by: his wife Verna "Libby" Galliher Kester; his son Larry A. Kester, Jr. of Florence; his stepson Joel Matthews of West Columbia; his grandson Shane Kester of Florence; his stepgrandchildren, Haylee Bedenbaugh Boswell (Kalen) of Phenix City and Beau Cumbie of Darlington; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Kayden Boswell and Leya Boswell; and his former wife Trudy Kester of Nashua. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
