We announce the death of Michael J. Cherry in Florence, South Carolina, who passed away on September 9, 2026, at the age of 89. Michael will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Royal Cherry and Zelma Cushing Cherry; his siblings, Donald, Patrick Cherry and Caroline Cherry Brown; his children, Ellen Cherry Delawder and Christy Gonzales-Law; and his son-in-law Gordon Clarkson.
He is survived by: his wife Heidi Cherry; and his children, Christopher Cherry (Ann) of Lottsburg, VA, Martha Clarkson of Fredericksburg, VA and Alice Freeman (Bryan) of Fredericksburg, VA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel (606 Beaty St, Conway, SC 29526). A prayer was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
