He was predeceased by: his parents, Boyd Feophlus Watts and Atlanta Morton Watts; his wife Brenda Faye Pettus; and his siblings, Atha Watts Grassano, B. F. (Ansel) and James Watts.

He is survived by: his children, Sharon "Shari" Elizabeth Watts Benfield of Indian Land and James David "Davy" Watts of Indian Land; his grandsons, Colby Craig Benfield and Reily Reece Benfield; his nephews, Tom Grassano (Lidia) of Greenville and Brad Watts (Pam) of Rock Hill; his great-niece Angelica Grassano; his great-nephews, Cody Watts, Chase Watts and Tommy Grassano; and his brother John Wilson (Patsy).
