He was predeceased by : his wife Iris Clayton Tolbert; his parents, Thomas Brantley Tolbert and Kathryn Terry Tolbert; and his siblings, Albert Tolbert and Mary Hicks Curd.

He is survived by : his sister Lorraine Owens Foster.
