He was predeceased by : his parents, Walter H. Sr. Smith and Marjorie Coleman Smith. He is survived by : his sister Caroline Smith Sherman; his nieces, Mary Caroline Riner (Phillip Wood) and Elizabeth Riner Patty (Charles); his great-niece Elizabeth Siddall; and his great-nephews, John Siddall and Geroge Siddall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Fountain Inn Museum, 102 Depot St, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.
