He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret Yongue Painter; his parents, Garland Lee Painter, Sr. and Mamie Lee Blanton Painter; his siblings, Jonas Claude Painter, Horace Painter and Millie Donahue; and his half-brothers, Gayle Painter and Carl Painter.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Painter (Sharon) of Waxhaw, NC, Cindy Painter Honeycutt (Robert) of Charlotte, Deborah McKnight (Terry) of Huntersville and Teresa Painter Bright (Benny) of Gaffney; his sister Helen Blackwell of Gaffney; and his grandchildren, Blake Honeycutt, Ashton Honeycutt Fowler (David), Sylvia Faulkner (Eric), Ryan Baghalzadeh (Krista), Leah Painter, Katie McKnight, Caleb McKnight (Jordan), Melissa Bright Holmes (Kevin), Gina Bright Daniels (Todd) and Cody Bright (Cindy).
