Ruby Scates Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ruby Scates of Gaffney, South Carolina, who passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Richard Edward "Ed" Scates, Sr.; her parents, Joseph Harvey Swan and Hattie Cable Swan; and her siblings, Harold Swan, James Swan, Ralph Swan, Helen Greene and Willie Morgan.
She is survived by: her children, Richard E. Scates, Jr. (Cheryle M.) of Buford, GA, Douglas R. Scates (Lou Ann P.) of Boiling Springs, NC and Deborah S. Demo (Roland Harvey) of Shelby; her grandchildren, Gray Scates (Sloan), Andy Scates (Jennifer) and Jessica Scates; and her great grandchild Thomas Scates. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
