He was predeceased by: his parents, William Avery Groat and Mary Lewis Groat of Augusta, GA.; his brothers, Andy Groat and Steve Groat; and his sister-in-law Jeanne Groat.
He is survived by: his wife Shary G. Groat; his children, Geoffrey L. Groat, Jr. (Sharon) of Charleston and Whitney Drum (Ted) of Greenville, SC.; his granddaughters, Eliza Groat and Suzanne Groat; and his siblings, Johnny Groat (Elizabeth) and Katie Groat. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 8th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church (113 Baskervill Dr, Pawleys Island, SC 29585). A reception will be held on Tuesday, July 8th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the DeBordieu Clubhouse (908 Bonnyneck Dr, Georgetown, SC 29440).
