He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Hal W. Tanner, Sr. and Latrelle Grantham Tanner; his wife Brenda Hinely Tanner; and his siblings, Patricia Tanner and John Tanner.
He is survived by: his children, Greg Tanner of Atlanta, GA and Allison; his son-in-law Matthew Kuhn of Cumming, GA; his grandchildren, Will, Duncan Tanner, Keller Kuhn and Hayden Kuhn; and his sister Jane Bell of Savannah, GA.
