He was predeceased by: his parents, Oza E. Black and Maude Long Black; his children, Ricky D. Black and Kathy Marie Black; his siblings, J. T., Von, Leonard Black, Ronald Black and Annette Rodgers (Ozalee Price); and his great grandchild Bradley Black.

He is survived by: his wife Sandy Porth Black; his son Jerry J. Black; his sister Geraldine Black; his granddaughters, Michelle M. Black, Jennifer M. Black and Lisa L. Alley; and his great grandchildren, Gwen Black, Zach Alley, Jackson Alley and Chloe M. Black.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1273 Calks Ferry Road, Lexington SC 29072.

“I offer my condolences to the family members and friends of James Black. I would also very much like to offer the condolences to Chloe' Piszcz whose last name was incorrectly printed as well as to Harlow Piszcz, Adam Piszcz, Ainsley Piszcz, and Gunner Piszcz who for some unknown reason were intentionally denied recognition by refusal of a request to be added in the obituary as the great grandchildren of their Papa. They were very close to him and they loved each other very much. They are the biological children of Jennifer Black, Ricky D Black's biological child.”
