He was predeceased by: his wife Alice Velenia Mixon Gaites; his parents, Norwood Gaites and Ruby Nell Cook Gaites; and his sibling Beverely "Teno" Gaites. He is survived by: his sibling Fonda Willams Clemons; his children, Ray Gaites, Deana Gaites Padgett and Christy Gaebelein (Jason); and his stepchildren, Theresa Simmons (Carl), Richard Chamberlain and Ronald Chamberlain. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
