Barbara White McInerney Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and a profound amount of love that we announce Barbara White McInerney went to her heavenly home on March 6, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Barb grew up on a farm in Mt. Airy, MD. She was the daughter of Richard T. White, Sr. and LaVerna M. White. At a very young age, Barb learned the importance of sharing her talents with her community, from student council to 4-H to beauty pageants. She went on to graduate from Gettysburg College with a degree in Psychology and a Minor in Education, and then onto Penn State University to earn a Master's Degree in Counselor Education while working as a Graduate Assistant. These educational experiences would impact and enrich the lives of hundreds of children and families throughout the multitude of organizations and communities that she immersed herself in throughout her life.
Prior to moving to Greenville, SC in 1981, Barb worked for 3 years as the Student Union Program Director at Central Connecticut State College in New Britain, CT. Her passion for education continued in Greenville where she served on Christ Church Episcopal School's Arts Guild and Parents Panel, became Director of Disciples UMC Child Development Center as well as becoming the President of the Greenville County Childcare Association.
During the 20 years Barb led Disciples UMC Child Development Center, she created an educational program that fostered a loving learning environment for children's intellectual, social and moral development. In her own gentle and persuasive manner, she strived to create, build and strengthen long-lasting impacts through her ever-growing talents. The children whose lives she touched will continue to bless our communities for years to come.
Barb shared her love in so many ways with her endless creativity, but her masterclass level talents were probably most enjoyed in cookie form. In her brief retirement years, she started a business with her daughter that brought joy to countless people and occasions with custom decorated cookies of all kinds.
Her approach to life was simple, love God and share. His love with everyone. She truly felt that everyone she met was a gift from God and she was a friend to whomever she met. Her legacy lives on through all the lives she impacted, but her most treasured roles in life were that of being a Mother and Grandmother (or Grammie to the kids).
Barb is survived by her husband and best friend of 50 years, Michael J. McInerney. Her legacy will be continued by her surviving children: Meghan Doyle (Jeff) of Richmond, VA, Patrick McInerney of Greenville, SC, Briana Webster (Park) of Greenville, SC, and Katie McInerney of Atlanta, GA; her three sisters: Karen Kane (Jim), Diane Hinkle (Scott), and Lisa Fair (Michael); her most precious gifts, her grandchildren: Parker, Grace and Quinn Webster and Miles, Emerson and Finley Doyle; her extended family includes brothers and sisters in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren, whom she loved so dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard T. White, Sr. and LaVerna M. White and her brother, Richard T. White, Jr.
To all those who loved and cherished Barb, please remember to share your talents graciously as she did. It's the greatest gift we can give to one another, and the one that will leave everlasting impacts on lives for generations to come.

The family will welcome visitors on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, 639 North Main St., Greenville, SC 29601. Her. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Disciples United Methodist Church, 185 Riley Smith Dr., Greenville, SC 29615. A reception will follow. The interment will be private at Graceland East Memorial Park in Simpsonville, SC.
