He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank R. Thompson and Evelyn Forrester Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Janice L Thompson; his children, Tracy D. Gay (Steven), John Tyler "Ty" Thompson (Jennifer) and Kathy Witham (Scott); his grandchildren, Jessica Hannon, Chaffee Gore, Austin Gay, Grayson Witham, Grant Witham, Mary Claire Gay, John Tyler Thompson, Jr., Campbell Thompson and Gauge Gay; his great grandchildren, Max, Eleanor, Benji, Elaina, Hampton and Amelia "Millie"; and his siblings, Betty T. Robertson, Jeri T. Stafford and Michael D. Thompson. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews; fifteen great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home (639 N Main St, Greenville, SC 29601). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
