He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Waggoner, Sr. and Grace Lee Moore Waggoner; and his brothers, Russell Waggoner, Jr. and Frank Waggoner. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Phelps Chatham; his children, Janette Elaine Waggoner Wesley (late Renato G. Vicario), Elizabeth Anne Waggoner Anthony (Kenny Anthony) and Keith Russell Waggoner (Vicki Waggoner); his grandchildren, Lindsay Carol Wesley, Reid Andrew Wesley (Kachine Rhoden Wesley), Kristopher David Wesley (Leah Williams Wesley), Lauren Kay Anthony (Aaron Rayburn), Matthew Donald Anthony, Kristen Brooke Anthony Cavalier, Emily C. Waggoner, Jessica Garrison, Paige Hunt Van Amburg (Nolan Van Amburg), Ellery Waggoner, Alyssa Waggoner, Joie McCall Waggoner-Jenkins (Alex Waggoner-Jenkins) and Grace-Elizabeth Waggoner; his great grandchildren, Nakoa Lucano Wesley, Norah Evelyn Wesley, Logan Mayer, Riker Andrew Wesley, Lillie Rayburn, Madeline Rayburn, Katrina Cavalier, Dominic Cavalier, Clementine Dawn Van Amburg and Marleigh Mitchell Rice; and his nieces, Bobbie and Brenda Waggoner.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Downtown Chapel (639 N Main St, Greenville, SC 29601). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 1:30 PM at the Hope Pointe Church of the Nazarene (1201 Haywood Rd, Greenville, SC 29615).
Through the Don & Zelma Waggoner Foundation many wonderful local and regional initiatives were funded through the couple's amazing generosity.
