He was predeceased by : his parents, William Phillips and Mildred Childress Phillips. He is survived by : his wife Tammy Phillips; his sons, James Fred Phillips, Jr. (Gina) and Adam Phillips (Leann); his grandchildren, Marissa, Brad Hoffman, James Phillips and Sophie; his great grandchildren, Aiden, Jaiden, Kennedy and Aria; and his siblings, Donna Phibbs and Bobby Phillips.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 18th 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest Chapel (6710 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC 29611). A burial was held on Thursday, April 18th 2024 at the Graceland East Memorial Park (2206 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681).
